Commas and Homeschoolers

Teen Son and I had a lively conversation in the car about punctuation. Yes, punctuation. Yes, just for fun.
We especially debated the stylistic importance of commas. The conversation got even more exciting when we moved to the necessity of commas for clarity in writing. And then there was the debate over whether or not to use a comma before the "and" in a list of 3 or more items.

Homeschoolers are such geeks. I love it!

If grammar chatter makes you a geek, then must be a double-geek! Not only am I a homeschooling Mom, but I'm an English as a Second Language teacher. I most certainly include commas in a list, between each item, and before the 'and'. It will be part of my final exam for Pre-level I ESL this Saturday at the college.
There's a homeschooling teen I know who has a blog called, "Grammar Freaks". I love the name!

Exactly! Yesterday in the car, listening to an Altell commercial with the lady saying that the savings were, "Hot, hotter, and hottest!" My youngest daughter said, "She just used a positive, a comparative, and a superlative." She's 10 (turning 11....TOMORROW!!)

They grow up tooooooooo fast!
