Making a Point

Recently, a family member made a point to tell me how terrible it is that the Catholic Church has so much wealth stored up in the Vatican when there are so many poor people.

Then he got into his Lexus and drove home to his $250,000 condo.

That is just so ridiculous, it's hilarious!

Yes, we must help the poor, yet we must evangelize, too, and keep what is sacred. If all the treasures of the Vatican were sold and given to the poor, it would be consumed and gone. Instead, these treasure continuously evangelize for generations. The treasures are there not because they are valuable in monetary terms but in spiritual ones. We Catholics are a sacramental people, and the Vatican treasure reminds us of what is sacred.
