40 Days to a Clean and Organized Home

I've been looking for just the right thing to sacrifice for Lent, wanting to do something completely new and different. Inspired by a post over at Oro Et Laboro, I've decided to come up with a plan to clean and organize my house throughout Lent.

With the exception of cooking, I am not gifted in the domestic arts. I envy women who are able to create beauty throughout the family home. It is truly a gift to be able to keep a family home tidy, organized and welcoming.

Of course, my lack of domestic skill is probably directly related to the fact that I simply don't like cleaning. My motto has always been, "How can I do housework when there are so many good books to read!" So, dedicating Lent to a cleaner and more organized home is a serious sacrifice for me.

Ash Wednesday is only 2 days away so I'm pulling together my 40 Days to a Clean and Organized Home a little late in the game. However, I'm committed to doing it. I'll get started within the hour.

Part of my Lenten commitment will be to blog on my progress. Would you like to join me? If so, let me know in the comments. Feel free to leave tips and ideas for the rest of us. We're in this together.

I am like you, I am good at making plans and need accountability to follow through. I would much rather be sewing or on my computer - so for a more organized house I am game!

Let's do it! Are you going to give us a plan, Maureen, or are we on our own? Can you just come over to my house and clean for me? ;)

You're on your own with cleaning Evann!!! However, I'll help you with a plan and with encouragement. I've got the plan half done.

I see my library has this book as well! It will probably will not make the transfer closer to me by Wednesday, but it's my heart's desire to have a more organized and clean home. From the book - Day 4: Be annoyed; very, very annoyed - hey I already have that covered when I'm wondering WHO left the latest mess!

All, right, Maureen, I'm game. Bring on the plan, though, because it's way too late for me to come up with one on my own. And I am going to need all the help I can get!!

Maureen,
I am with you here. I have been doing the 40 bags for Lent challenge each year and I do like that, but it just gets the clutter out and doesn't help me organize the rest of the house. I can't wait to see your plans.

Why is is always more fun to clean someone else's house and not your own? Anyone wanna swap...LOL...

We are massively cleaning/ decluttering our home. We have been doing this for about a month and it does NOT look like it will be done anytime soon. In order to clean well, things need to have some semblance of order. The more we try to order things, the messier things get. Give me a snow shovel and a fire hose any day, and that is the only way I can show you REAL progress...LOL

Sharon, is this the book, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0800730992/catholictreas-20
Tell us if it's good when you get.

Mary, tell us about the 40 Bags for Lent Challenge. I assume you throw out a bag of trash a day during Lent.

My friend Lynette is over and we're talking about plans and we're going through my clutter. More soon ....

I'm in, too. I'll be nesting for new baby due in about 10 weeks, too, so this should be interesting. ;-)

I'm ordering that book... what's a challenge without a pretty new book to go along??!! ;-)

Would it be easier to make a yahoo group for accountability? Just a thought...

Yes, Maureen that looks like the same book pictured in the library catalog online. Just two in the county system here (FL) and two holds on them (one mine!)
I'm going to do your notebook list.

I posted my plan on FB....built-in accountability as friends will be inquiring (or stopping over) to check on my progress!

Thanks for the inspiration, Maureen!

This is great! I was planning to do the same thing for Lent, but I have such trouble when it comes to really big projects (like cleaning out/organizing the whole house). Thanks for sharing this, Maureen! :-)

I almost didn't open my e-mail tonight that linked me to this. I still hadn't decided on my Lenten sacrifice and was just praying about it when I read this! I had already begun what I had called spring cleaning yesterday and today, but I know without the accountability, it would have quickly fallen by the wayside. I am writing my list right now, and am so excited to make this journey with you this Lent.

Allison, I love stories like that! Our guardian angels are always working.

Let's all pray for one another that all of us persevere in our sacrifice and give glory to God as we work to make our homes a more inviting place for our families and friends.

I set it up so that my blog posts show up on my Facebook page here, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Maureen-Wittmann/113089005393128. I think if you "like" the page, it'll show up on your update page each day. I hope it works that way at least.

Thank you everyone for joining me!
