I just ordered a couple of saint costumes from Our Coats of Many Colors for Super Boy and Princess Rose. Princess had no problem picking out a costume. Of course. St. Rose of Lima was her choice. SB had a harder decision to make. It was almost tortuous. St. Francis is his "very favorite saint in the whole entire world" but St. George is too cool for any little boy to resist. Eventually, swords won out over sandals.
I'll make sure to post pictures and a review (my frends all give them rave reviews) when the costumes get here. In the meantime, if you are sewing-impaired as I am and would like a break from putting together your own saints costumes every year, go check out Our Coats of Many Colors. Now is the time to order for All Saints Day as they run out quickly. Besides, you need to give the mailman time to get them to you.
Oh, make sure to check back at the website now and then as they have Lord of the Rings costumes (great for Halloween!) coming as well as costumes for biblical plays.
UPDATE: The costumes arrived!

They are wonderful costumes, indeed, but tooooooo much money! Whatever happened to the simplicity of the Saints themselves? Doesn't this just encourage the culture of consumerism? For the sewing impaired, there are sites that give great ideas on making your own. This site has a lot of ideas http://www.livingcatholicism.com/archives/2007/10/catholic-hallow.html
and http:www.catholichomeandgarden.com has pictures of how to make your own.
Let's teach our children to live simply so that others may simply live!

Thank you for your concern Magda. I've seen your same comments at several other blogs on this topic (though interestingly under different names).
I agree completely that we should live simply and frugally. After all, I do also write The Thrifty Homeschooler.
In the case of Our Coats of Many Colors, these costumes are so well made that they can be passed down from generation to generation. The craftsmanship is excellent. I agree that they are very expensive but they are also very high quality and therfore worth the price.
These are also costumes that are so enjoyed by my children, I'm sure they'll be worn year round in playing the saints.
In fact, I think they would make lovely Christmas presents. Certainly more so than the latest video game! And I get to help a nice Catholic family with their home business so that they too may simply live and Mom may stay at home with her children.
With all that said, one should refrain from making such a purchase if it would create a hardship on their family. No one should make impulse or extravagant purchases.
I do appreciate your suggestion of the websites for homemade costumes. I'll have to check them out in the next day or two as I'm sure they'll be beneficial.
Recently I purchased the Gandalf costume from costume
dressy costumes and it was so nice and reasonable price. There are so many other costumes are also available on dressy costumes.
