Helping Mark Pay the Dental Bills

Speaking of worthy causes, Mark Shea is on Day One of his Quarterly Pledge drive over at Catholic and Enjoying It! If you have money burning a hole in your pocket, then hop on over to Mark's blog and give him some.
If you like what you read here, please help keep an emphatically lower middle class writer solvent so he can keep bringing you the weird combination of offbeat humor, theological ramblings, ecclesial and civil politics, and various cultural ephemera that you've come to realize you can't live without.

God bless him, but Mark needs to get a job. THis is just irresponsible to "support" your family this way. THere is no nobility in it at all.

I would respectfully disagree Anonymous. Mark is doing the Lord's work, IMO. I send him a donation every quarter as I get something of value from the work he does. (Writing is work, BTW.)

Of course, no one needs to donate to Mark's work, nor should they if they do not feel it is worthy of a donation.

Catholic writers are much like missionaries. Missionaries in our own backyard, but missionaries nonetheless. They are bringing God's Word to the people. They are terribly underpaid and it is not dishonorable to occasionally put your hand out for a donation. But then, that may be the Franciscan in me :-).

And there are many other ways we can help Mark and other Catholic writers without giving them a free handout. We can buy their books, ask our public libraries buy their books, invite them to speak at conferences, buy Catholic magazines, etc.
