St. Martin de Porres Pray for Us!

My friend Margaret Mary writes:

Do you know the story about St. Martin and the little creatures? According to the story, they were eating the bed linens at the convent. And someone wanted to get rid of them. But he talked told them to stop eating the linens and live in the barn and he would feed them there, and they did. I don't know if it's legend or fact, but I do know that he's known for his love of, and ability to deal, with the animals. I love him for his charity and gentleness with people, and his love of God.

I guess we need to get St. Martin praying for my rat/sofa problem!

Maureen,
I think you should be crowned Super Mom. I would have shaken that couch long before now... of course I never would have had a rat invited into my home in the first place :)

Ed suggests calling the humane society to see if they have any ideas for how to catch her in a humane way.

We bought a humane trap at the hardware store, when we had a mouse problem and my similarly Franciscan spouse couldn't bear to butcher the creatures. It worked very well. But field mice are different from genius rats.

In the event that Junior has been infected with toxoplasmosis, you might lure her out with cat pee.

I am not making this up.

Any news on the rattie situation ? I've been asking St. Martin de Porres and St. Gertrude of Nivelles to intercede for you.
You might want to check out the Ratlist...

I don;t have this problem- my boy ratties are way too big to fit in the sofa !

Oh, I don't know about being crowned Syper Mom. Crazy Mom may be more like it ;-).

I did go to the Humane Society. All they suggested was putting out a cat carrier with some food in it. Didn't help.

Mike, it is amazing how smart these domesticat rats are. She's only a babe, but pretty smart . . . and fast.

Ed, I'm not sure if I could get my cat to pee in a cup. I'll have to ask her. :-)

Narwen, I'll check out the rat list, or at least have the kids do it.

Thank you everyone. Thank you especially for the prayers.

St. Martin, pray for us!
